my steel magnolia

it's been almost 6 years since i started my quest to bake the perfect cupcake. i tried one of my grandmother's simple vanilla cupcake recipes - one my mother promised would be a winner. one afternoon in my tiny apartment kitchen in Atlanta, i took out the recipe and followed each step to a tee. i pulled the first batch from the oven and patiently waited for it to cool so i could take my first bite. well, okay, i didn't wait patiently. i grabbed one tiny cake from the hot pan and threw it in the freezer to cool it down. come on, i know you've done it too. after about a minute, i took the cake from the freezer, peeled away the paper, and took my first bite. it was TERRIBLE. dry and crumbly and everything a cupcake is NOT supposed to be. lesson learned.

from that point on, it has become my personal mission to try every trick and recipe in the book on my way to find the perfect cupcake, and i'd like to think i've come across some winners over the past 6 years. cupcakes should be sweet and special, with a little bit charm to make them unique. you know, like all those spunky southern women you know and love. so while my mammy didn't leave me with the ultimate cupcake recipe, she did leave me with a whole lotta inspiration.

email me at steelmagnoliacupcakes@gmail.com and let me bake some sweet, special, southern cakes for your next event.

with love,
